I’m pleased to be able to share my newest creation, something which was very different for me to work on – Smoosh lamps!

These lamps have been six months in the making, from the conception stage to now being ready to find their new homes. They had a ‘soft launch’ at Handmade Market Canberra last month and were popular talking points!

So how did I venture into lamp making? The process began with coming up with a design. From the beginning I knew I wanted something quite structural, without a lamp shade. My idea was for the lamp base to be the centre of attention, an art piece in itself. While I have sourced cute vintage style bulbs, it's the lamp shape and the selection of glazes that grab your attention.

Once the design came to be, a master needed to be created in order to make the mould. My dad helped me make the master from a huge piece of wood, then my partner and I created a plaster mould with it. This is what is used to pour slip into and make the lamp base. Then the right shaped bulb needed to be sourced, one that didn't overwhelm the piece.

The result is a one-of-a-kind table lamp, all ready for use – all you need to do is screw the bulb in and bask in its light!
