Most plant pots are made to blend with their surroundings. Terracotta, white, grey - backgrounds for whatever's growing in them. The planters in this collection don't work that way. Rhiannon's in-house abstract glaze palette runs the same across planters as it does across the lamps and vases: brushed on in layers or dipped, fired twice, the colour rich enough that the pot holds its own in a room before a plant goes anywhere near it.
Three forms, and the differences are real. Large planters are sized for proper indoor plants - the kind of plant where the ceramic is as much of a presence in the room as what's growing in it. Wide enough to take a substantial root system, and glazed in colours vivid enough that the pot doesn't need something growing in it to justify being there. Classic planters are a more contained form: windowsill scale, proportioned for smaller plants and tighter spaces - a succulent, a trailing plant on a bathroom shelf, a small herb on a kitchen bench. Planter and saucer sets come as a matched pair: the pot has drainage holes and the saucer catches the water, so they suit a plant you want to water freely.
Drainage varies by piece. As a rule the large and classic planters are glazed inside and watertight with no drainage hole, so they sit straight on a shelf or table, while the planter and saucer sets have drainage holes and a saucer to catch the water. One-off pieces sometimes break that pattern, so every listing states which it is. If drainage matters for the plant you have in mind, check the listing or get in touch before purchasing.
All planters are made from cone 6 midfire stoneware at the studio in Bellambi, Wollongong, NSW. The glaze is brush-applied in layers - so the same colourway reads differently across two pieces from the same batch, depending on how the brush moved and where the glaze pooled. Both firings matter: bisque to harden the clay, then the glaze fire to seal the surface and develop the colour fully.

The Large and Classic planters are formed to a consistent shape, then trimmed and left to firm up to leather-hard before anything else happens.
Where a planter has a drainage hole, it's cut by hand before the first firing - not drilled after. The clay is still workable at that stage, which makes a cleaner edge than any post-fire drilling would.
After forming, all planters go through a bisque fire to harden the clay. Then the glaze goes on by hand, brushed in layers or dipped, depending on the piece. The same colourway can read quite differently across two pots from the same batch: the brush moves slightly differently, the glaze pools at the base, the kiln atmosphere shifts the colour fractionally. That's not inconsistency - it's the thing that makes each one worth looking at.

Large planters suit statement indoor plants - fiddle-leaf figs, monsteras, pothos in a larger pot, anything with a substantial root system that needs room. Classic planters suit smaller plants: succulents, compact trailing plants, small herbs, a cactus that doesn't need much space. Sizes: large planters are 20 cm tall and 22 cm wide; classic planters 14 cm tall and 14 cm wide; planter and saucer sets 13 cm tall and 13 cm wide with a 16 cm saucer. Check individual product listings for dimensions if you're matching a specific pot size.

We don't offer drilling as a service. But if you want to add drainage to a planter that doesn't have a hole, a ceramics or tile drill bit can do it at home - the clay is kiln-fired to cone 6, so it's workable with the right tool at a slow speed. If drainage is essential, it's simpler to pick a piece from our listings that already has it, or we can custom make one with holes for you.
